Nick Jones

Nick Jones, originally from Marvell, Arkansas, has made Fayetteville his home since the late 1990s. After an initial move to Fayetteville to attempt a walk-on for the basketball team at the University of Arkansas, Nick eventually established roots in the city, purchasing his first home in Bridgeport in 2016. His journey took him through various states, including Texas and Georgia, where he experienced different aspects of community life, ultimately bringing him back to Fayetteville where he found a better sense of belonging.

Nick’s entrepreneurial spirit, inspired by a family background rich in self-employment, led him to transform his childhood hobby of cutting hair into a successful career. At the age of 12, he began cutting hair, learning the trade from watching his father. In 2005, he opened his first barbershop, Trendsetter Barbershop, in Fayetteville. Through hard work and determination, he navigated the challenges of starting a business, including long hours and financial uncertainties, to establish a thriving enterprise.

Nick's barbershop has become more than just a place for haircuts; it is a community hub where conversations about race, education, and social justice flourish. He is deeply involved in his community, supporting various initiatives and organizations such as the Freemasons and Phi Beta Sigma, which focus on community service and upliftment.

Nick emphasizes the importance of ownership and economic empowerment for the black community. He advocates for self-sufficiency and the creation of businesses that not only provide financial stability but also serve as examples for future generations. His vision includes owning a bank in Northwest Arkansas to ensure that financial resources are accessible to his community.

Nick’s life experiences have shaped his perspective on race relations and the systemic challenges faced by black individuals in America. He is candid about the struggles and the resilience required to navigate these issues. Through his work, he aims to plant seeds of change, fostering a sense of pride and ownership within the black community while challenging the status quo.

Nick continues to inspire and mentor others, using his platform to promote education, ownership, and the importance of community. His dedication to making a difference in Fayetteville and beyond is evident in his tireless efforts to support and uplift those around him.
