The Washington County Community Remembrance Project (WCCRP) was initiated after members of the community attended the grand opening of the Equal Justice Initiative's Legacy Museum and the National Monument to Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, in 2018. The project aimed to memorialize victims of racial violence and lynching, specifically focusing on Washington County, Arkansas. The inspiration came from discovering that Washington County was not represented in the museum, prompting local research and the eventual identification of lynching victims Aaron, Anthony, and Randall Boone.

The project involved extensive community engagement and collaboration with the Equal Justice Initiative and emphasized telling authentic stories, incorporating oral histories, and ensuring that narratives reflect the true experiences of those affected.

Further inspiring, "Illuminating AR Voices", an event organized in partnership with the Visionairi Foundation. Illuminating AR Voices features regular Black Arkansans sharing their narratives through videos, images, and oral history recordings.
